DUCHALFORD Our current work project The pictures on this page show the progress status of our 'OO' Scottish model railway as it was February 2006. The concept of the layout is based on an integrated model of three entirely separate layouts. In the foreground is an end to fiddle yard freight line on which we use Digital Command Control. The double track line in the centre is a large oval with four storage lines on each circuit in the fiddle yard area. To the rear and raised above the rest is an end to fiddle yard suburban passenger only line with overhead catenary where the Strathclyde Passenger Transport multiple unit models will operate. At present the class 303 and class 320 EMU's we have built are experiencing some poor running quality. This matter will be addressed during the summer months. We would welcome information on couplings and/or weight distribution for these model units which we power with 'Black Bettle' motor bogies.
The layout mad its debut appearance at Model Rail Scotland 2006. With plenty enthusiastic operators to run it the automatic controls were used to only a limited degree. A month before the show it was decided to fit the outer mainline oval with Digital Command Control rather than the relay controlled auto system on the inner circuit. Fir the next few weeks club night activities will concentrate on a rebuild of the fiddle yard baseboards to give a more level base and to incorporate extra storage sidings.
The inner mainline is split to three block sections. when a train enters a section it will be protected by automatically switching off power to the entry via reed switch and relay operation. In addition train operated point switching causes a train entering the fiddle yard to set up routes for the train on the adjacent line to depart. Work on the latter was completed but with the rebuild of the fiddle yards a modified system will be installed soon. The layout will next be shown at the CATHCART MODEL RAILWAY EXHIBITION (November 4 and 5, 2006). In the meantime we would welcome anyone interested in our layout construction to come along to the club nights to help us out or just to watch how it is done."
