BLAUSEEMITHOLTZ-3.5mm 'HO'

By Douglas Boyle

Picture of Blauseemitholtz

Translating from German to Blue Lake in the Wood the prototype lies east of the Simplon tunnel in Southern Switzerland. It has been adapted from its original mainline through station to a branch terminal on an HO layout some 22 feet long.

The layout was conceived as a small test track on which to experiment with overhead traction. While this is not used live anymore it fulfils the notion of powerful Swiss locos hauling heavy trains. Only passenger trains operate into BLAUSEE with a fair mix of loco hauled and push pull units.

Track work and point operation from PECO components, buildings from the marvellous KIBRI range. Rolling stock is mainly LIMA with a few ROCO items. The layout is normally in storage, but is brought out onto the patio on fair summer days for brief operating sessions.
